Parents

Raising kids is tough.  I have three children of my own - Quinn (16) and Owen (14) are my two older step-sons, and Kepler (2) is my youngest.  They're all great kids and I love them a ton; their training (of me) has given me a new, broader appreciation for the joys and trials of parenthood.  My growth as a parent (from theoretical to practical) over the last few years has been significant, and I would like to share some of the resources that have helped me to be successful.

Book Recommendations

There are many great book resources out there to help parents.  Of course there is nothing that replaces on-the-job training, but even parents who seem to "have it down" benefit from exploring new ways of interacting with their children.

Homework Tips

Mrs. Baker, our learning specialist, has a wide variety of resources to help students be more successful in school.  One of the things she can help a child do is make homework time more productive and efficient.  Check out the Homework Tips that she recommends.

Test Preparation Strategies

Is your child struggling with tests and quizzes?  This happens a lot, regardless of a child's intelligence.  Many students get through school by relying on their memory; remembering what the teacher said or what happened in the book was easy and that got them through until the test (if ever there was a test).  As students move into and through middle school, this strategy doesn't work as well any more.  Students who have developed good study skills and habits may do significantly better than those who have survived on memory alone.  Here are some test preparation strategies that many students have found helpful in getting ready for tests and quizzes.

Your Ideas

The adage, "Why reinvent the wheel," certainly holds true here.  If you have any ideas or strategies that you think are worthy of sharing, please let me know and  I can add them to this website.  Send me an e-mail at akoerger@charleswright.org
